If you vote for one addition, you must vote for one removal. As long as you balance it out, you're okay. Remember, you as a group voted for a defensive magic user. Don't let that sway your vote, I'm just reminding you.

I was kinda hasty, so I'll explain things in a little more detail. Thanks to This for pointing out what I missed.

As you might expect, your stats increase whenever you level up. The amount you gain is not controllable after the character's made; instead, you decide here what to gain bonuses in but what to lose out on as a countermeasure.

Attack stat deals with the physical damage you inflict, as well as the odds of a successful counterattack - assuming the target's in range.
Defence determines not only the physical damage reduction rate, but also the chance of blocking enemy attacks.
Magic determines magical damage as well as the rate at which you recover MP.
Resistance determines just that - your resistance to spells and status effects.
Accuracy determines your... well, accuracy. It also helps you land critical hits.
Lastly, Speed determines your dodge rate and your attack speed. Note that you can't change your field speed without an appropriate method of transportation.

For clarity:
When you level up, you gain stats. The amount you gain is determined by your base stats. Choosing a stat will increase its base and therefore grow faster as you level. Ones you give up will lower meaning less points. So if you want to blast powerful spells and not worry about melee, Mag up Atk down. If you wanna hit more often and dont mind taking more damage, hit up, def down. and so on.

OH and also, the stats:

Attack - Physical damage and counter rate
Defence - physical damage reduction and block rate
Magic - magic power and MP regeneration
Resistance - resistance to magic spells and status effects
Hit - accuracy and critical hit rate
Speed - dodge rate and attack speed

Just pointing this out.
You don't have to pick THREE. You can choose two up two down or one up one down. Ones you dont choose will neither gain nor drop.

You don't get the items. they are just there to represent the stats. How it works is you pick 1 2 or 3 stats to boost. character stats only, items have nothing to do with it. then you choose an equal number of stats to drop. ie, 3 up 3 down, 2 up 2 down or 1 up 1 down or all neutral. Decide which of those two builds you chose you wanna keep.
